Here’s what I think should be on the top every ipod classic instructions book: you will never run out of storage space!!!
This is especially true when it comes to music. On the 80GB ipod classic you can store 20,000 songs. On the 160GB ipod classic you can store 40,000. You don’t need no ipod classic instructions to realize we are talking about approx 3000 albums!
How many albums do you own??!!? How many albums do you think you will own until the rest of your life?
And even with videos it is still amazing: up to 200 hours on the 160GB ipod classic, which means around 80 movies. That’s a movie every 4.5 days for a whole year.

I am looking to use a digital voice recorder to download personal notes and comments onto my mac. Someone told me that I can use the ipod for that. Is that true? If so, which ones? The shuffle, nano, classic…?

Hi eric.
Yes, you can record voice memos on your ipod, but:
1. as far as I know you can do it either on the ipod classic or the ipod nano.
2. you need an ipod compatible microphone, which can be purchased from apple.
After you record your notes you can sync them to your computer.

I got an ipod 80GB last week as a gift and now am very frustrated by it. I purchased $30 in music and went to sync it but only 7 songs downloaded to it. So I tried it again. Only a few more synced. Even though all songs were checked they didn’t download to my ipod. So now I configured RealONe because don’t like itunes really. Everything seemed to go well–songs were syncing and then after I ejected the device, there was now NO MUSIC in my ipod. What is going on???

I just received my first ipod yesterday I have the iPod Classic with 160GB.
I also have iTunes. My small problem is even though I synced my iPod with iTunes, I get a message saying the iPod wasn’t synced properly. Am I doing something wrong? Can someone give me step by step instruction with this thing? This should be a simple procedure but I can never get stuff like this on the first “go-’round”.

here’s my advise:
1. Make sure you are syncing your ipod properly.
2. Try reseting your ipod.
3. Try restoring the ipod to its factory settings.
4. Try getting help from an Apple store.

I believe that since this is your first ipod, you’ll find a lot of the videos’ content useful.
Bare in mind, that the ipod nano videos cover the ipod classic as well.

my new ipod classic will not respond it i plged into my pc and it flashes and when the apple sign goes off it makes a click noies and that is all it does but somtimes says charging but not for long because then it goes off agen and starts flashing the apple sign agen and making the clicking noies can u help me because it is very annoying ? oh and itunes is not finding i and somtimes my pc does but not all the time.

There might be other ways, but they are not as straight forward as using itunes.

I got an i pod from a friend, and when i plug it in to charge it, it has Nicck’s i pod on it. How do i change it? it also has some of her songe no there that i dont like. Is there any way i can get them off?

In order to change the ipod’s name, simply connect it to your computer.
Wait for it to appear on the itunes resource list (left pane of itunes).
And click on the ipod’s name – it becomes editable, so just change it.
The best way to make sure you have only the songs YOU love on YOUR ipod, the best way would be to automatically sync your content from itunes to your ipod.
If you are not sure how to do it (this might need a few configuration updates, because it was somebody else’s ipod), check the syncing section in our step-by-step ipod&itunes video guides.

i got an ipod from my friend, the ipod is locked how can i unlock it.
When I am on manual IPOD and I push the eject button I am no longer connceted to ITUNES…..now if I want to reconnect to ITUNES do I have to physically unplug IPOD and replug or is their something I can do in ITUNES.

Hi! I’ve got a serious problem with my iPod classic. I mention in the very beginning that I’ve got still a lot of time on it, nevertheless I cannot add movies. The movies that I’m talking about were in avi format at first and I converted them without any problem to mp4. Then I put them into the iTunes library and… the problem occurs when I want to synchronize iPod with iTunes.

i successfully put contacts on my iPod.
HOWEVER, the “instructions” that were in the contacts before i added any contacts is still there (i.e. there is a contact named “instructions”).

Is there an idiots guide to using this thing? If you aren’t very computor literate, HOW are you supposed to know, you have to go on itunes? I want to put podcasts on and haven’t a clue. I have an ipod Classic 80G and synced it to my work computer six months ago. A week ago the HD crashed and I have since acquired a replacement laptop. I put iTunes on the new computer, but don’t want to sync to it for fear of erasing 300+ cd’s worth of music that I spent ‘A LOT’ of time loading. I don’t see an easy way to upload the music from my iPod to the new computer so they may be in sync…what am I missing?

I do not now seem able to record a CD on to Window Media Player (rip) and then get it onto my I Pod. A small 8gigabit unit. I must have been able to do it in the past but now it defeats me. Maybe because I am getting old (72!).

I listen to audio books a lot on my iPod Classic 160GB.
Normally when playing a book the iPod monitors the amount of time passed and the amount of time still to run and I can fast forward of fast rewind.
My problem is that I have lost this and all that shows now is the current volume.

Hello, I saw an earlier question regarding using your ipod as a voice recorder. I was curious if a 160GB ipod classic purchased in late 2008 can be used with an external mic? Apple’s website says that the ipod classic (late 2009) does, but what about my earlier model? If so, can you recommend a mic?
