the safari browser. You can obviously surf to any site and set either google or yahoo! as your default search engine. But the true beauty is that even “big” sites look great on such a small device! Downloading music directly to your ipod touch is another feature I consider a big advantage. You can search, preview and purchase songs without using the full iTunes software on your computer. But whether we’re talking about new or old features, we always need to consider the user as well. That’s you. A feature can be “old”, but if it is the first time you’re using it, it new to you. before you can do anything with your new ipod, it needs to be activated by iTunes on your computer.
So what you need to do is:
1. make sure your computer’s internet connection is on
2. download and install iTunes from here.
3. connect your ipod to the computer usb port using the cable included in your ipod package.
4. follow any instructions iTunes will provide.

My itouch will not log on it finds a network but then it ask for a pass word I don’t know any pass words can you help?

I’m assuming you’re trying to connect to a wireless network.
Do you have a wireless network setup at home?
If you’re trying to connect outside at a starbucks for example,
you’ll notice that most wireless (or wifi) connections are secure
and require a password to connect.
(This is a good thing by the way – because it means your browsing
experience is at least private).
Just head over to one of the employees where you’re trying to connect and ask them for a password.

I’m not sure how to connect to youtube with my ipod touch. When I try to click on youtube it says i have to connect to itunes first, but I’ve already done that. Is there something I’m not doing right?

Do other things work properly?
For example, can you play music in your itunes?
Are you sure your internet connection is working?
Can you use the broswer?
Can you access the itunes wi-fi mini store?
Everything else works fine, it’s just the youtube option
I suggest you go back to the place you bought the ipod from and ask them.
Your device might have a unique problem.

What do you mean “maps”?
Did you actualy mean “folders”?
After you connect your ipod to the computer, and itunes is opened. What sync option is checked in the “photos” tab?
If there’s main folder in your computer that the photos are synced from (like My Pictures), each sub folder it has will turn into a different album in your ipod.
If you have new photos, simply open a new sub folder for them.

I went to settings to increase the volumen but even when it shows its to all the way louder it hears very low. What can I do?

Just making sure you are talking about the “Volume Limit” under “Settings/Music”. It should be set to “Off” after dragging the slider all the way to the right.
The problem could also be in the music files themselves. In that case try to use iTunes’ feature to auto adjust the volume of the songs:
1. In iTunes go to the “Edit” menu, and select “Preferences”.
Under the “playback” tab, check the “Sound Check” option.
2. Now in your ipod do the same under “Settings / Music”.
3. Re-sync your music from the computer to the ipod.
And just to make sure: are you using the ipod’s original headphones? Other headphones with poor quality might reduce the level of volume.

I’m sorry to disappoint you, but you cannot add new events to the calendar.
You can only sync information from a calendar application on your computer (like Microsoft Outlook) to you ipod touch.
I was given an iPod Touch as a gift. So I do not have a store I can ask:
I have not been able to connect to wifi, either at home (where I have lots of wifi connected computers and set the password) or at Stanford (where I get there page and provide my username and password).
I was also disappointed that the ability to enable the hard disk is gone, but I found third party software which lets me carry files on the road and backup my laptop. It is a nuisance, however, and I miss the ease of the nano.
Troubleshooting wi-fi problems could be a problem sometime.
I suggest you try connecting to a clear network (no need for password) and see if that works.
Maybe the problem has to do with the type of encryption.
I believe that even if you got the ipod touch as a gift, you can still go to apple stores and ask for advise.

I recently purchased the iPod Touch. It’s my first Apple product, and so far I’m really enjoying it! However (this is most likely due to my inexperience with the brand) I’m having difficulty in trying to locate what I consider to be some very basic and fundamental commands/options. First, does the Touch have the copy/cut/paste ability? If so, how do I use it? Secondly I turned on the option in the General Settings area to enable the use of CAPS
Lock, but haven’t been able to figure that one out either.

I’m not sure what copy/cut/paste you’re talking about. Generally speaking all the editing is done via itunes.
You can see all the imoprtant features in our guides.
The CAPS option allows you to double tap the shift button (when using a keyboard) and then all the letters you type will be uppercase.

Changing your ipod’s name is easily done via iTunes.
Connect the ipod to the computer, and the ipod will appear in itunes.
Select the ipod.
And now click again on the name of the ipod.
Type the new name and enter.

Thanks for the quick reply, and straight-foward answers. In regards to the copy/paste feature, I was wondering if the touch has that capability from within the Safari browser. For example if I find something within one page but want to google it for more info. Is there a way from within Safari to copy the text in question and then be able to simply paste it into google rather than having to flip back and forth between pages to check the spelling? Sorry for the lengthy question, but I wanted to be sure I explained of adequately this time.

Unfortunately I have to tell you that currently there is no way to copy/paste on the ipod touch. It seems like an obvious feature, doesn’t it?
But there are rumours that it will be available in the iphone soon, and then probably on the ipod touch.

hi, i just bought an ipod touch and want to connect it to a wireless connection. i have a rooter which is already connected to 3 laptops and i do know all the information for it but it doesnt “find” the network which is annoying because it worked for one day and never again. could u help?
Im having a lot of problems connecting my Ipod to the internet. I go to the settings page, and connect it to a network. I have tried with two so far, one with a secruity code, which it accepted, and a normal one without security. It shows its connected and all that on settings.
When i go to Safari, the signal strength is not at the top. I go to a page, and it says “Safari can’t open the page because it can’t find the server.” I don’t know what im doing wrong. In the beginning i registered my Ipod, but i didn’t make a itunes account.
So how do i fix this, am i missing a step?

My best advise would be to follow the step-by-step ipod&itunes video guides on how to setup and operate itunes and your ipod.
If you are using Windows, it is recommended that you use Windows XP or Windows Vista.

I just recently downloaded the latest itouch software update in itunes. When it finished downloading, it started to install to my itouch but crashed because Windows firewall blocked the intall’s access to the internet. I had to reboot the computer. Now, Windows still recognizes the itouch but iTunes will not and an error message states that it does not recognize the “iphone”? I have tried uninstalling all Apple software and reinstalling, resetting the itouch, reinstalling the drivers, restarting the Apple service in Windows services, and nothing works. The latest iTunes software install will not recognize my iTouch. Help! Did this somehow corrupt my iTouch?
I have quite a bit of music on my ipod touch and the only problem I seem to be having is that it cuts off some of the songs before they are done. Is there a way to correct this? I have re-synced a couple of times and this doesn’t seem to help. I don’t necessarily want to re download all of my music as I do not know exactly how many and which songs are cut off. Any ideas?

I just got an iPod Touch and when I connect it to iTunes, it says that the iPod connected cannot be used because it does not have the required software. I am trying to use the internet for the first time on my ipod touch. when i am on the wi-fi settings page, it says wi-fi is on, then under choose a network it lists my home network (when i am at home) and other network available other places. I just got an ipod touch, i would like to ask if how I can group my music files into different folders?
I have an old ipod classic full of music. My husband recently bought a new ipod touch, installed new itunes on his laptop and has been using this to update the new ipod. I tried to connect my old ipod to itunes and it doesnt show any of the content it has on the itunes screen.. merely the device name. WHen i tried to import the music files one by one from the device they appeared on the new itunes library and i could play them, but when the old ipod was ejected, the library couldnt play them as it cant find them. Is there a way to get the music from my old ipod onto the new one without having to reinstall all my CDs!!!

My Dad just gave me his Touch…I’m just figuring out how to use it….I’m afraid to connect it to my computer or anything though…..I want to keep all of the songs he has on there but I want to reregister it in my name…..A friend told me as soon as I connect it to a PC (since dad had it on a mac) that I would lose all the songs….PLEASE HELP!!
Hello….I am having issues getting pics onto my Ipod touch, I sync through I tunes but pictures do not appear on my Ipod. Do I need to have pics/photos in a certain file format (as with movies/songs as they have to be mp4)? Any help would be well appreciated

I’ve downloaded TV shows and videos onto my iPod touch. I can’t seem to get the settings correct to play it on my TV. My old iPod (80g) would ask “TV on” or “TV off”. The NTSC setting in the video menu (of the iPod touch) allows the sound to come through the TV, but not the picture. What am I missing?

Simple problem with ipod touch, i used to use an 80gig ipod photo, i listen to podcasts at night and the old ipod would stop at the end of each story, the ipod touch podcasts, when finished, immediatly goes on to the next story, can i change this so that it plays one story then stops, rather than carrying on.

I hope you can help me, it may be a silly question to most but it is very frustrating, I have got an IPOD Touch and what ever tune I put it on it constantly plays over and over again unless I manually change it, This wasnt like this at the beginnining, only my very clever 6 year old used it one day and has clearly changed the settings somewhere along the way, I have read the very basic instructions and nothing helps. Hello – I received an ipod touch for christmas and have been enjoying it tons! I’m having a “duh” moment…can you please help. How do I move the icons around from page to page? I was able to get it to work once – but don’t know how I did it and now can’t figure it out any more.
Two other questions… 1) when I downloaded a music video from itunes, it was saved under the “video” folder – well, it would not let me play it. An error would appear saying that it is unable to play the video. Then, the “graphic” beside the video, was of the cover of another movie I had purchased??? 2) My music had been playing just fine. I had been downloading cd’s onto my ipod on a computer at home, then I came into the office (because I do not have internet at home) and purchased songs via itunes store and ever since then, when I try to play music it scrolls really fast through the song titles and arrow flashes in the top right corner and there is not any sound. Sometimes it will also display a frame of one of the movies I have saved while doing this as well.

I got a Ipod touch for Christmas and it worked nicely ,but now I can’t hear the music my Ipod says it’s playing. The battery is charged, volume is up and the head phones are plugged in. I even unplugged them and plugged them back in. I can hear sound when I play games and youtube, but not the music I have downloaded. How can I fix this.
I received the Ipod touch 2nd generation as a Christmas gift. I have continaully reset the date and time and saved it each time. But after a few days, the time and date are wrong again. I live in SC and the New York time zone is the time zone that is chosen for my touch, but that doesn’t help at all. The time and date just won’t stay correct. Do you think I should return the unit? I’ve also tried to connect to Wi Fi’s where a password was not required, and I couldn’t connect. I’m concerned that I might have a “not so perfect” unit.

I’ve had my iTouch for a while and its been working great up until a week ago. I don’t know what happened but for some reason when I try to charge it, it doesn’t charge. All that happens is that it shows me the apple sign and thats it, then after a few hours it goes blank. Afterwards it shows a battery saying it needs to charge, then I connect it and charge but the same story happens again.

Hi, I just purchased a iPod touch 8Gb secondhand. I had no problem transfering a CD to the iPod via iTunes but I just bought an album on iTunes and it is taking a very long time to download. I am using a broadband/cable internet connection and have the iPod connected using the USB cord….so I’m not trying to download from WiFi. Also I did download the 3.0 software and a WiFi finder app. There is no icon on the iPod showing the app…so how do I know if I got it or not. I bought both on iTunes.

My 2gen Ipod touch screen just froze up suddenly with no clear cut reason why. I hooked it up to Itunes and removed a couple of applications and it began to work again, about 10 minutes later it froze up again and I haven’t been able to duplicate what I did to un-freeze it the first time. I’ve tried restore, DFU mode, etc. I have a full charge although I do utilize a generic Belkin power charger, any help would be greatly appreciated

My ipod touch repeats the same song. I have looked in settings but can’t seem to find anything that can stop it.

hey, i just got my itouch like a month ago, and i today i charged my itouch and by the time i got to school the font of everything was so big, literally on my screen u can only see 2 icons at a time, like if it magnified…how do i make it smalller when in the first place it doesnt have a font size setting???

my blue tooth features identifies other devices pairs them up but does not stay connected to transfer other songs and videos,what do i need to do ?

Okay, done that, now the darn thing is telling me that it could not connect to the ipod because it is locked with a password, and that I must enter it on the ipod before it can be used with itunes.
Now tell me just how I am supposed to do that when I can’t even get into the darn thing.
Yes, I am HIGHLY aggravated with this stupid thing. Had I known it was this difficult, I can tell you that I would NEVER have bought it.
The cheap MP3 players and such are much easier to deal with, and heck I am about to throw this against the wall.

i have a used ipod and there is still the last owners name on it and sometimes it requires her password, which i dont know. what can I do about this…i saw your response to this question but when I plugged it into the computer it did not take me to itunes to fix this???

Songs, videos, etc. might cost money, but not the actual software.

I can’t do the following on my new Touch and can’t get any help even rom the Apple people:
a) How do I add the photo of the people in my Contact App?
b) How do I load free Apps for the Touch I find on the Net?
c) Does a non-sync calender App exist?

I have the new ipod touch and i usually dont like turning all the way off, i just like to press the sleep button so it’d be easier and faster to turn on, but ive noticed that when i put it to “sleep” a couple minutes or hours later it starts to play my songs, with out me knowing and running down my battery. How can i stop it from playing my songs when its locked with out turning it all the way off?

I puchased the 64 gig last month and now find I am learning the software limitations of handling gigs and gigs of tunes, pdf’s, photos everything that can be placed on the Touch. When I have the Touch connected and open iTunes to make a small adjustment, iTunes wants to “sync” and this is turning out to be an issue.
I have had my Touch syncing ( it is connected via usb 2 and wifi) now for more than 30 hours with no other application running and it is no more than 1/3 of the progress screen.
If this is for real there needs to be a warning. Loading this or that beyond this number of gigs can be time consuming to maintain!
I feel it is not made to handle the capacity it has available. This is not useable.

Hi. I have an iTouch. On all of my playlists, songs advance as they should. These playlists are arranged and set up while in iTunes before they are synced to my iTouch. However, when I set up my On-the-Go playlist from my iTouch, the songs will not advance properly nor will they simpy play. I have to advance through the songs manually and skip the ones that won’t play at all.
I have tried re-booting and have restored my device to factory settings but it doesn’t help my problem.

When i try and go to itunes, via my ipod, it is tel me to connect to wi fi, my ipod is connected to wi fi via my laptop. Only just got my iopd, and am findinf=g it so very easy to use, as no instrusctions are included, which is sooo silly.

Still figuring things out on my ipod but the one thing that has me totally stumped is my music. I put a bunch of songs on it but it will only play 1 at a time, even when they are in playlist form. Everytime a song ends, i get the front menu screen again and have to get back into my music folder.

as a response to one question regarding cut/paste, etc. I have found that if you double click on the address bar it will give you the option to select/select all/paste. then you choose it will give you the option to cut/copy/paste.
I bought second hand ipod touch and it was working good everything worked, connected to Itunes, etc. then didn’t use it for about 3 weeks, went back to it after recharged and now the ipod is disabled. Itunes is not acknowledging the ipod… Too much good info I don’t want to loose. Trying to copy all to pc. need to know how, and haven’t backed anything in itunes yet……. You can update or add a new event in the calendar in the IPOD Touch. Once you pull up the calender and get to the date you want to add an event just tap the + icon at the top of the screen, then tap the different fields on the screen and fill in the appropriate details for your event and then tap on the done button. Very simple.
